Thursday 12th June 2008 - Final Stage

The last 55 miles!!

The day started overcast and cold and didn’t get much better, the team rolled out of the YHA Helmsdale at 0830hrs on their final stage to John O Groats. There was an air of apprehension as the team knew there was the legendary climb of 13% through Berriedale - it did not disappoint!
After the hill we knew we were nearly there but the road just kept on going on and on, however it was just a matter of time before we arrived. The weather at this stage reminded me of the Falklands and just to confirm we had Harriers flying low overhead! The end of this epic ride came too quickly as we climbed over the last brow and raced into JOG at a great rate.

Luckily the recce party had discovered exactly where the finish line was -approx 3 metres from what was the main hotel (presently in the process of a much needed refurbishment!)

Jessica & myself lead the team in and before we knew it- it was over the line and done. What a great feeling.
